3 to 6 years old

The second stage of Preschool Education at Colegio Arenas Internacional is designed for children between the ages of 3 and 6 years old. The skills and knowledge acquired during this stage form the foundations for future academic success. For this reason, we aim to build abilities, skills and sensorimotor development through educational programmes which cater for the varied needs and learning pace of each child and which focus on investigation based learning strategies so as to achieve a lasting education.

PYP

Colegio Arenas is an authorised centre for the IB Primary Years Programme (PYP). This programme is aimed at students from 3 to 12 years of age and is designed to create students who participate actively in the learning experiences throughout their education.

The structure of the programme is based on three interrelated questions: What do we want to learn? How best will we learn? How will we know what we have learned? At our school, this programme begins in the second stage of Pre-school Education from three years old.

We use investigation as the basis for our methodology. It is the teacher who, through the posing of open questions, guides students to inquire and investigate rather than to listen passively. Through this learning strategy, students acquire a variety of different skills, concepts, knowledge, attitudes and values.

The learning is based on four interdisciplinary themes in the first two years of Pre-school (3 and 4 years old) and six themes in the final year (5 years old).

Languages

In the second stage of Pre-school Education, half of the school day is taught in English. The development of reading and writing skills is achieved through the Jolly Phonics method. From the moment children are able to recognise sounds, they begin to put them together to form words and at the same time learn to read using general texts.

It is essential that opportunities for communication are created in appropriate contexts so that our students feel the need to express themselves in this language. In addition, routines and positive habits (such as assembly, talking about the weather and the date, etc.), are created from the very beginning in English.

Our students’ learning experiences must be fun and enjoyable. For this reason, activities are based on story-telling, song and role-play, in which oral communication is the main focus. Our teachers use resources to aid verbal communication such as gestures or audio-visual material (flash-cards, picture books, interactive digital whiteboards).

Sensory Classroom

A classroom with materials designed for our students to receive different stimuli. It allows to develop sensory and cognitive capacities. The richness of sensory stimuli benefits the development of thought, intelligence and language.

In it, various acoustic, tactile and visual stimulation activities are carried out. Students will enjoy while learning by experimenting.

Robotics with Bee-Bots

 

We use them to work in different areas such as language, mathematics, road safety or music, and which helps us pose challenges in both Spanish and English.

They have been designed to develop the basic abilities of programming, special location, logic, among others.

Emotional Education

Emotional Education also plays a fundamental role in our students’ education as it helps them to regulate their emotions and show empathy towards others. The principal objective of our school is, and always will be, to provide our students with a high-quality, lasting education and an experience at Colegio Arenas Internacional that will stay with them throughout their whole lives.

Estimulación acuática

La actividad acuática en los niños/as favorece su socialización en un ambiente lúdico ya que el menor se siente protagonista de los juegos y actividades, ya que le estimula y aumenta su creatividad, mejora el coeficiente intelectual, el desarrollo psicomotor y le ayuda a relajarse.

Los programas acuáticos se realizan en la piscina del centro.

Reading and Writing Skills

At this stage of their lives, children experience important developments regarding their skills and thought processes. They begin to read and write and use language more precisely.

Our system for teaching reading, writing, fine motor skills, mathematics and basic concepts is particular to our school and allows children to learn progressively and at their own individual pace.

Estimulación acuática

El  bebé en el medio acuático se relaja, aprende nuevos movimientos y fortalece su musculatura a la vez que descubren aspectos relativos a la respiración que contribuye de forma decisiva a su desarrollo motor.

Los programas acuáticos se realizan en la piscina del centro.

Orientation department

Our Center has an Orientation Department that offers services of Psychopedagogy, Speech Therapy and Psychology to our students and families both internally and externally. To know in detail these services and / or request an appointment, please contact us.

Online Agenda

Our online agenda aims to strengthen our relationship with the families of our youngest students (Preschool 0-2 years). From any device, parents can access detailed information about their children, such as: nap time, meals and bowel movements, notifications, among others.
